Yukata Workshop by JETAA

Participants at the Workshop

A Yukata workshop 2015 was conducted at JCC on 1 August, in collaboration with Jetaa Singapore (The JET Programme Alumni Association) headed by its Vice-President Ms Nathalie Ng. Ms Nathalie started by explaining about the history of Yukata, the difference between Yukata and Kimono, and how to wear Yukata to the participants.

In addition JCC was honoured to have Mr Naya Reitoku, Grand Master of the Reitoku Kai Japanese Dance Group in Singapore, who came to assist the male participants at the workshop.

With an amazing turnout, not only did the participants learn about Yukata, but they also had the hands-on opportunity to try them on and meet like-minded lovers of Yukata. The other special highlight of this workshop was that JCC’s Director Ms Misako Ito was present at the workshop dressed in a yukata herself.

Ms Ito also joined in together with the JETAA volunteers to help the participants in trying out the yukatas. The participants were very excited to be dressed in yukatas and clicked lots of selfies and wefies of themselves. JCC is proud to present this workshop for the second time and hope to bring more Japanese related workshops in the near future.
